April has traditionally been Autism Awareness month, but we are trying to do more than become aware, we are driven to accept! I have been planning this campaign for months and have had the absolute PRIVILEGE of photographing some of the most AMAZING people! Throughout the month of April we will be featuring them and their stories. I pray that you find love for these INCREDIBLE humans and their passions!
Robby is 12 and has Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder. He loves everything with wheels... cars, trains, airplanes, but especially the Delorean time machine in his all-time favorite movie, "Back To The Future". He can tell you about every detail from every version of the Delorean, through each of the three BTTF films. He also loves Thomas The Tank Engine, and enjoys reenacting his favorite scenes from the series. Robby wants to be a filmmaker when he grows up, and enjoys studying the work of his favorite (Autistic!) artist, Anthony Schmidt Photography.
From mom: "When Robby was little, he had some speech delays, food sensitivities, and eczema, but the biggest challenge we had with him was his self-injury. Transitions or unexpected changes in routine brought on big behaviors that were beyond typical toddler tantrums, including hitting his head on the floor. In spite of his violent behavior, doctors were reluctant to recommend evaluations because he was making eye contact at well-child visits. We went through 9 doctors and specialists, over nearly 3 years, before we finally got a referral to a behavioral specialist."
